Student Awarded Prize in SD Society of Professional Journalists Competition

Congratulations to Feature Writing student Christina Macone-Greene, on her huge win at the Society of Professional Journalists San Diego-Area Journalism Competition! Christina won 2nd place in the Feature Story in Daily Reporting category and we couldn’t be more proud of her recent success.Thank you to Christina for sharing her story with us and to instructor Caitlin Rother for expertly mentoring students like Christina.

From Christina:

The freelance writing classes I took at UC San Diego Extension provided an incredible personal investment.  Before these courses, I freelanced for community newspapers in San Diego County.

It wasn’t until my classes with novelist Caitlin Rother, a former journalist with the San Diego Union-Tribune, that my writing skills kicked me up to the next level.

In one of her courses, I wrote an article which was published by the San Diego Union-Tribune in 2009.  It was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists San Diego Pro Chapter for its 2010 journalism competition.

My story, “Blindness no obstacle for dog trainer” placed 2nd as a feature story in daily reporting.

I’m extremely grateful for the opportunities UC San Diego Extension brought to my professional career.
